quick update

Found out the other day that Big G Daddy has Pneumonia. He is still at the rehab place (lakeshore rehab for you bham folks) and is doing a lot better. I guess for awhile he wasn't talking (goes along with him not swallowing). I had breakfast with my grandma and she said he is talking now. Since we have a big family in the bham area, we are all going to visit him and it seems to be tiring him out cause he's the type that feels the need to entertain...

Trip to Texas was great last week! More to say and pics to post. But for now, I must pack--cause Lee and I are headed there Friday!

Why is it 70 degrees in December?

Big G Daddy was discharged from the hospital yesterday and is now in a rehab place. They said they wanted to do a chest xray and see if he had pneumonia. (apparently he wasn't able to swallow for a couple days and they think the secretions that were just hanging out in the back of his throat could have cultured bacteria which causes pneumonia) I don't know what the results of that were...

I'm reading this really good book. It's called "Same Kind of Different As Me". I think one of the reasons I like it so much is cause it's set in Ft. Worth, so I know all the places it's talking about! Anyway, the lady who leads the bible study I help out with gave it to all the leaders. It seriously is good...I got it Tuesday night and will more than likely finish it on the plane tomorrow!

Speaking of planes, I'm pretty darn excited about flying to Texas tomorrow! Katie is graduating from nursing school and asked me to pin her. Of course I would! I'm missing my Nac people like crazy and want to see the newly engaged couple (not to mention the ring in person!) Well, I have nothing packed and tons of errands to run before tomorrow...lots to do!!!

p.s. it really doesn't feel like Christmastime when I wore shorts earlier this week! Crazy!

update on Big G Daddy

Friday morning after I got off from work, I went with my g-ma and aunt up to the hospital. Apparently Big G Daddy made out like a bandit! Out of all that happened, he ended up with a slight concussion. He did have a black eye and some bleeding out of his ear (which could be REALLY bad), but it was from the ear that his hearing aide goes, so it was more than likely from that. Since he is 103, he was in the Cardio ICU. At some point this weekend, he was moved to a regular bed. I'm not sure when he's getting out of the hospital, but I'm so glad a concussion was the worst of it!

So yesterday while I was running, I got COMPLETELY turned around in Mountain Brook. I decided to take this trail I had seen earlier in the week, but I had no clue where it was going to spit me out. Well, I decided to split from the trail and run through a neighborhood, (I have a pretty good sense of direction, so I figured I was fine...) Well, after a few more turns in the neighborhood I had forgotten them all and was totally lost. I kept thinking I would run into the road my car was on...no such luck.

Finally I just asked another runner. He looked nice and we was running a pace that said he knew where he was going. The direction I thought my car was in was the complete opposite. So I ran about a mile and a half with him and he pointed me in the right direction! I was very grateful cause it was almost dark when I finally decided to ask someone! That's the last time I just run where ever I feel like that close to dark without driving it first!!! There is a certain urgency that comes when you're lost and it's almost dark!

prayer request

So yesterday my Grandad and Great-Grandad were at lunch and while my G.G. (grandad) went to get Big G Daddy's (great g-dad) walker, Big G Daddy fell and hit his head. He's currently in one of Birmingham's hospitals in the Cardiac ICU. He's 103 and apparently had a small seizure when he fell. Last I heard, they were waiting on the Neurologist to read the MRI results on his brain function. I guess when he fell he didn't break any bones, cause SURELY my family would have told me that.

It's not like he's a vegetable, he bikes or walks several miles a day and can tell you stories of living during the great depression!

Anyway, when you're praying, keep that in your prayers! Thanks!

Happy December!

I love December! (Usually) the weather's just gotten chilly and with family birthdays and Christmas and the close of another year, it seems to be a month jam-packed with events!

For starters, last night was my FIRST night off orientation as a real nurse taking care of my own patients. It wasn't all that bad. Definitely not something to get all worked up about, like I did. It was just a normal day, we weren't too busy (which is a good thing) and there were plenty of people to help me out when things got a little out of hand.

Next week I'm flying to Texas for Katie's pinning! I'm super pumped about this and can't wait! I have the feeling I'm going to be coming to the Lone Star state more often than I thought!! (Twice in December, for example!)

Our apartment is all Christmasified! Yes, we have a tree (need to go shopping for presents to go under) and lights and garland on the bar and Christmas stuff on the table! It's so cute! I think the apartment is finally starting to look like people actually live there!

I got to have dinner with my cousin on my week off and it was an absolute blast! She's crazy, fun, and down to earth! We've missed out on so much of each other's lives growing up so far away! We decided it's going to have to happen at least every other week!

Obviously I'm in a happy mood, hope you are too!! :)
